Project:Soil Nail Wall Collapse, The French Quarter, Noosa QLD
Client:Lawyer & Insurance Group
During the construction of a 13 metre deep basement using the 'soil nailing' method of excavation support, the excavation collapsed, thus causing serious construction delays and the need to rebuild the wall to a new design.
As a consequence, this firm was engaged by the PI insurer of the project manager to investigate the probable causes of failure, appropriate methods of repair and advice regarding responsibility issues. The investigations included a detailed review of the geotechnical reports on the site prior to the collapse, the soil nail design itself, together with an independent assessment of the site geotechnical conditions.
Finally, as the firm's work resulted in the identification of different subsurface conditions to those assessed at the time of design, as well as serious defects in the design itself, the firm provided expert evidence in the ensuing litigation.
